Neuroscience

One in five Australians suffer some form of mental illness. Thousands of Australians live every day with mental ill health. Many of these people suffer in silence. At AstraZeneca we are striving to make sure our medicines can help make a difference.

Our neuroscience therapy area focuses on problems related to the function of the nervous system, including the brain.

It is a complex area of significant medical need that touches many peoples’ lives.

One in 200 Australians are affected by psychotic illness every year. Nearly a quarter of people with psychotic illness feel socially isolated and lonely. Nearly half of people with psychotic illness have attempted suicide at some time, which is more than ten times the rate of the general population.

Migraine is an often disabling condition that affects approximately 10% of Australians. Migraine may occur recurrently over many years or even decades.

Living with any one of these conditions has a huge impact on day-to-day life; physically, emotionally, socially and financially.

They also have a significant effect on the lives of those caring for individuals with these conditions.

AstraZeneca aims to make a meaningful difference to patient health through innovative medicines that bring benefits for patients, we have an active research program in the neuroscience therapeutic area.
